16/8/2018 Two years trip We really enjoyed doing a Street Food tour in Vietnam, so when we found out how many cookery schools there are in Chiang Mai it seemed natural to take a class to find out how to make some authentic Thai food. After a bit of research we picked the ‘A Lot of Thai’ cookery school and booked in for their Friday course.
‘A Lot of Thai’ is run by husband and wife team Yui and Kwan. Yui doesn’t have formal culinary training but she is passionate about Thai food (actually I suspect she’s pretty enthusiastic about all kinds of food!) and has been teaching people to cook for over ten years. There are photos of her more famous students around the classroom, including Gordon Ramsey. Her husband Kwan is a graphic designer and also handles the bookings and transport. The classroom is at the side of their house under a lean-to roof. 14/6/2018 Two OregoniansQ: What’s the next best thing to growing up in Thailand and learning to cook Thai food from your mom?
A: Taking cooking lessons in Chiang Mai from a local Thai chef, learning secrets she learned from hermom and tricks of the trade she’s picked up as a pro in Thailand…and around the world. 7/3/2018 Mowgli adventures With a few weeks to tour the north of Thailand, taking a Thai cooking class in Chiang Mai was right up there on our must do list. Thai food is scrumptious and to don an apron and wave an oversized chopping knife around in one hand, a wok in the other exclaiming “ooh la la” like a Michelin star chef was something we weren’t going to miss out on. So we booked ourselves a class and did we strike it lucky? Oh yeah! If you’re visiting Chiang Mai, it’d be a missed opportunity if you don’t book what has to be the best Thai cooking class in Chiang Mai.
14/1/2018 Slightly Astray Chiang Mai has an overwhelming amount of Thai cooking classes. I was tasked with the job of picking a good one. I halfheartedly flipped through the brochures at the local tourism office, and all of them looked so… boring! All the same drab dishes, all the same dull format. So I took my search online and within 10 minutes, I had found the one. As soon as I landed on A Lot of Thai’s webpage, I just had a good feeling that it’d be special
3/12/2017 Meghan Leigh A Lot of Thai Cooking Class: One of the highlights of the trip. There are dozens of cooking classes in Chiang Mai, but I eventually settled on this one after much research and a few recommendations. We spent the full day cooking( and eating) up a storm, while learning how to create the most authentic Thai dishes. We also headed to the local market, where we were able to sample and see all of the fresh ingredients that go into Thai Cooking. We ate some of the best food of our entire trip during this class and would highly recommend it!
